Shooting Incident in Tallahassee 9-Year-Old Child Shot, Investigation Underway

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday night, resulting in a child being injured at a residence in southwest Tallahassee.

According to a press release shared on LCSO’s social media, a 9-year-old child sustained an abdominal injury.

Deputies reported that the child was shot while inside their bedroom when an individual fired a gun from outside the residence located in the 2700 block of Cathedral Drive.

Detective Brandyn Deas, who is handling the case, mentioned that there were other individuals present in the house when the shooting took place.

The injured child was promptly taken to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare and is currently in stable condition as of Wednesday, as confirmed by Deas.

The investigation into the incident is actively ongoing, and LCSO urges anyone with any information to come forward and assist them in their efforts.

Deas emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “We need the help of the community. People from the community are often the most valuable resource.”

According to an analysis conducted by the Tallahassee Democrat on gun violence, as of 2023, the capital city and county have experienced 39 shootings, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and causing injuries to at least 30 others.
