Residents in South Carolina who are recuperating from Hurricane Helene may be eligible for food aid under the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition aid Program (D-SNAP), according to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
This assistance is available to about 357,000 households in 28 South Carolina counties and one Tribe to help with grocery expenses.
People who normally wouldn’t be eligible for SNAP can get help through D-SNAP if they meet certain requirements, like income limits and costs associated with disasters.
Additionally, USDA has declared that residents in portions of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee are eligible for D-SNAP.
There are now 144 eligible counties and two Tribes impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, including four new counties in Florida: Desoto, Flagler, Lake, and Polk.
