A man has been arrested after being accused of fatally shooting his cousin earlier this month at an apartment complex in Sanford.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office reported that Marquez Henderson, aged 26, was apprehended in Volusia County on Monday through a warrant.
Henderson is alleged to have shot and killed his 24-year-old cousin, Jarkevis Canada, on August 19. The incident unfolded during an argument over a woman at the Georgia Arms Apartments located at 2600 Georgia Ave.
Law enforcement located Canada and rushed him to a hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. Henderson fled the scene after the shooting, according to witnesses and investigators.
Based on Henderson’s arrest report, a deputy made contact with him around 11:46 a.m. on Monday at an address along South Palmetto Avenue in Volusia County.
Henderson was then taken to the sheriff’s office in Sanford, where he underwent questioning by a detective before being transported to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.
Henderson is now facing a charge of premeditated first-degree murder, as indicated by booking records. He is currently being held without the option of bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 3, according to records.
