Teen Tragedy: 18-Year-Old Arrested for Fatal Shooting of 15-Year-Old in Florida City

On Sunday, grieving family members were finding it difficult to accept that a 15-year-old boy had died in a shooting that happened only a block from his grandmother’s Florida City home.

They recognized Damarion Bailey as the victim. The Florida City Police Department said that on Saturday, he was shot in the head. He was declared deceased by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue workers close to Northwest 13 Street and Fifth Avenue.

Damarion, a student at Homestead Middle School, was characterized by Kika Bailey as a “good kid” who had never harmed anyone.

Standing next to Damarion’s mother, the sad aunt remarked, “She needs justice for her son.”

Jeron Smith, who turned eighteen in December, was charged by Miami-Dade detectives with shooting Damarion to death. Smith admitted to the crime, according to the arrest report.

Investigators claimed to have discovered a 9mm handgun at Smith’s Florida City apartment, concealed under an air conditioner.

Records from Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation state that shortly before midnight on Saturday, correctional officers booked Smith, a convicted felon.

Shot Spotter technology, according to the Florida City Police Department, alerted them to the shooting. The shooting scene was captured on security cameras.

Detectives urged anyone with information to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 regarding this or any other case.
