Teenager Arrested After Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old in Wilton Manors

Authorities in Wilton Manors reported on Tuesday that a 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody by Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators in relation to an ostensibly accidental shooting that claimed the life of another adolescent on Monday.

A gunshot at a multi-family home close to the 400 block of Northwest 25th Street was reported to have occurred about 2:30 p.m., according to Wilton Manors and Fort Lauderdale police officers.

Christopher Granados, 16, was reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound when authorities arrived, according to reports.

Granados was taken to the hospital immediately, and according to BSO, he passed while there. Authorities further affirmed that there was no public threat and that the gunshot was contained to the residence.

The BSO reported that their homicide investigators took charge of the inquiry and spoke with other teenagers who had witnessed the crime.

Granados and Herbe Belony, 16, were handling firearms when one of the weapons exploded, striking Granados, according to investigators.

Belony was taken into custody on Monday night and is charged with one count of manslaughter with a handgun, according to deputies.

Belony will spend the next three weeks in a juvenile prison facility, according to court records. The date of his upcoming court appearance is October 4.
