After attempting to drown a 3-year-old child at an apartment complex pool and making racial remarks, a lady in Texas has been charged with attempted capital murder and child injury, according to authorities.

The family has been identified as Muslim and Palestinian by the Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. The news release from the organization stated that they are requesting that state and federal law enforcement agencies look into the incident “as a hate crime and take all precautions to keep the Muslim family and the Muslim community safe.”

Officers from the Euless Police Department responded to a report of a disagreement between two ladies at an apartment complex pool on May 19.

According to a news release from the police, witnesses told them that “a woman who was very intoxicated had tried to drown a child and argued with the child’s mother.”

Officers approached the 42-year-old lady, identified as Elizabeth Wolf, as she attempted to flee and arrested her for public intoxication.

According to the announcement, the victim’s mother informed authorities that Wolf was inquiring about the victim’s origins and the paternity of the two kids playing in the pool. The council claimed that the mother was obviously Muslim and that she wore modest swimwear and an Islamic headscarf.

According to authorities, Wolf also said that the mother wasn’t an American and made other racial remarks.

“When the mother answered her, she stated that Wolf tried to grab her 6-year-old son but he pulled away from her grasp, which caused a scratch on his finger. The mother began helping her son when Wolf grabbed her 3-year-old daughter and forced her underwater,” according to the news release.

Although the girl “had been yelling for help and was coughing up water,” the mother was able to rescue her from the water.

The announcement stated that the Euless Medics gave the children the all-clear medically.

The mother, only known as Mrs. H, told the council that, “We are American citizens, originally from Palestine, and I don’t know where to go to feel safe with my kids. My country is facing a war, and we are facing that hate here. My daughter is traumatized; whenever I open the apartment door, she runs away and hides, telling me she is afraid the lady will come and immerse her head in the water again.”

“The bond for the Attempted Capital Murder charge was $25,000. The bond for the Injury to a Child charge was $15,000,” Captain Brenda Alvarado stated.

According to the news release, Texas Representative Salman Bhojani expressed his shock and disgust at the reported racist and Islamophobic incident that occurred in his community.

Hate is not welcome in District 92, Euless, or anyplace else in our wonderful state. I would want to offer my assistance to the impacted family and appreciate Euless Police Department for swiftly apprehending the suspected provocateur.
