You are probably aware that you are not totally out of luck if you have ever overlooked a necessary item for your Thanksgiving meal.
While some grocery stores remain open for at least part of the day, the majority, including Publix and Winn-Dixie, will be closed on the holiday.
These are the Florida stores that will and won’t be open on Thanksgiving.
In 2024, which stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day?
Whole Foods
“Many of our stores are open for modified hours on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day,” according to the Whole Foods website. “We’re closed on Christmas Day. Check your local store page for details.”
Walgreens:
On Thanksgiving Day, Walgreens will only be open 24 hours a day. Walgreens locations that aren’t open around-the-clock will be shut down. On both Christmas and New Year’s Day, Walgreens will be open.
Sprouts:
According to the holiday hours listed on its website, Sprouts stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day, but only until 2:00 p.m. local time. On Thanksgiving, sprouts will open at 7 a.m.
Is Publix going to be open Thanksgiving?
No. Thanksgiving Day will see no Publix locations operating. This is one of the three days in a year that the chain of grocery stores in Florida closes to give its staff time to spend with their loved ones.
Only Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving are holidays when Publix stores are closed.
CVS
Depending on the area, CVS may or may not be open on Thanksgiving Day, though many do have adjusted hours.
“Most CVS Pharmacy locations are either open from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving or are Closed,” according to CVS’s website. “Check local hours on our CVS store locator to ensure you can pick up last-minute Thanksgiving Food on time.”
Sam’s Club
On Thanksgiving, Sam’s Club will be closed. Additionally, they are closed on Christmas, Easter, and New Year’s Day.
Target
Target will not be open on Thanksgiving Day for the fifth consecutive year. On Thanksgiving, you can still purchase items from Target’s website or app, but they won’t be ready for pickup until Black Friday, November 29.
Winn-Dixie
Thanksgiving is a closed day for Winn-Dixie.
“All Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery and liquor stores will be closed Thanksgiving Day to give associates a well-deserved day of rest with family and friends,” According to a recent press release from Southeastern Grocers.
“All stores will close as normal Wednesday, Nov. 27 and reopen for regular business hours Friday, Nov. 29.”
Walmart
Walmart stores will reopen at 6 a.m. on Black Friday after being closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Aldi
Thanksgiving Day sees the closure of Aldi outlets.
“Aldi stores are closed on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day,” according to Aldi’s website. “Additionally, Aldi stores operate limited hours on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.”

Costco
Thanksgiving, New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Christmas Day are all days when Costco is closed.
Trader Joe’s
On Black Friday, Trader Joe‘s will reopen after being closed on Thanksgiving.
