Authorities describe the accident of a 48-foot pleasure ship carrying 11 passengers as a fatal event that occurred Wednesday night off the coast of Long Beach, leaving 10 people hospitalized and at least one dead.
Officials from the Long Beach Fire Department verified that just before 9:30 p.m., crews from the department arrived to the Los Alamitos Bay jetty in response to complaints that a boat had struck some rocks, capsized, and started to leak water.
The incident was found to be a mass casualty when first responders got to the scene.
Sky5 obtained aerial footage of the tragedy, which revealed a significant number of first responders attending to the victims’ rescue and loading them onto ambulances headed for surrounding hospitals.

The cause of the incident is still unknown due to the scarcity of information, but investigators told that speed was probably a contributing factor and that one victim, who was only identified as being between 40 and 50 years old, was pronounced dead on board.
Five more travelers needed to be physically rescued, according to the authorities.
Ten persons in all were sent to the hospital in an emergency; three were in critical condition and seven were in stable condition. At the time, no other information was known.
