Tragic I-10 Crash Claims One Life in Early Evening Incident

A fatal collision occurred on Tuesday evening on Interstate 10 East near Olson Road, resulting in one fatality and another individual sustaining injuries.

The incident involved a pickup truck towing a box trailer and a semi, and took place around 5:30 p.m., according to Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol and deputies from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a press release issued later that evening by the FHP, the semi was traveling eastbound on I-10 near mile marker 203. The pickup truck, also heading eastbound, was in front of the semi.

For reasons yet unknown, the semi collided with the pickup truck. Both vehicles veered off the road and onto the grassy south shoulder. The semi came to a stop on the south grass shoulder, facing south, with the trailer parallel to I-10.

The pickup truck came to rest just within the treeline on the south shoulder of I-10, facing east. The box trailer had detached and overturned on the south shoulder.

Both occupants were ejected from the semi. Tragically, the passenger, a male, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver, a 53-year-old man from Jackson, GA, was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in critical condition. FHP noted that neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

As of now, the identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed, and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
