Two men were caught after a multi-agency investigation found that they robbed at least four businesses with guns in Leon and Gadsden counties.
Investigators tied the two men to armed robberies that happened between the middle of March and the end of April at Capital Liquors at 2811 Capital Circle Northeast, C&T Variety Store at 1596 Florida Georgia Highway in Havana, 101 Smoke Shop at 8167 Woodville Highway, and Market Liquors at 5032 Capital Circle Southwest.
A news release from the Tallahassee Police Department says that Antfernee Barkley, age 21, was arrested on six counts of robbery with a gun, carrying a concealed gun, and having marijuana with the plan to sell. Markell Kelly, who is 23 years old, was caught on four counts of armed robbery.
On April 28, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office went to the Market Liquors holdup, while TPD went to the Smoke Shop holdup later that night. Both times, the suspects got away in a car.
The Police Department said, “After a thorough investigation, TPD and LCSO detectives found that the suspect vehicle in each armed robbery was the same.”
On May 4, TPD officers pulled over a car that was going too fast and arrested the driver, Barkley. TPD said that when the car was searched, evidence from the thefts at the Smoke Shop and Market Liquors was found.
The TPD’s Career Criminal Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service caught Kelly on Tuesday at a home in Gadsden County.
TPD said, “These arrests show that law enforcement agencies from different areas can work quickly and together to help victims get justice and keep the public safe.”
