The Port St. Lucie Police (PSLPD) have apprehended two women from Palm Beach on allegations of retail theft.
Shalontay Ashe, 26 years old, and Latesha Lyman, 28 years old, are accused of being recurrent shoplifters, specifically targeting liquor and perfume items. This past weekend, they embarked on a shoplifting spree at numerous stores across St. Lucie and Martin County.
Several stores along the U.S. #1 corridor reported the theft of thousands of dollars worth of liquor. Additionally, over $1,000 worth of perfume was stolen from the Ulta Beauty store in Tradition. Witnesses at the Ulta Beauty store who witnessed the theft immediately dialed 911 and provided a detailed description of Ashe, Lyman, and the vehicle they used to escape.
Officers from the PSLPD, patrolling the vicinity, located the vehicle and intercepted it in a nearby parking lot. The stolen merchandise was successfully recovered during the intervention.
As a result, Ashe and Lyman are now facing two felony retail theft charges.
Furthermore, PSLPD detectives are collaborating with neighboring law enforcement agencies to investigate other instances of retail thefts in the Treasure Coast area. It is anticipated that additional criminal charges will be brought against the two suspects.
