Warren police are looking into what they believe to be a murder-suicide that occurred on Sunday between a woman and her 26-year-old son.

According to a Warren Police Department announcement, officers were called to a domestic assault at a residence in the 13,000 block of Geoffrey, close to 12 Mile & Schoenherr, at approximately 8:22 a.m.

According to police, a 33-year-old male reported that his mother had pointed a gun at him just after he woke up and that he called 911. After a brief battle, the man fled for assistance at a neighbor’s house.

According to the police, the mother did not answer when they attempted to reach her at the residence.

Police reported that shortly after hearing gunshots coming from inside the residence, they entered and discovered that the mother had allegedly shot both herself and her 26-year-old special needs son.

According to authorities, the mother and son were declared dead at the spot despite the officers’ attempts to save their lives.

“From what investigators have learned so far, there does appear to be a mental health history with the mother,” police stated. The man and woman were not immediately identified by the police.

According to Detroit resident Joan Knox, 70, she is Kris Knox’s grandmother. During a Sunday afternoon gathering of family members in the neighborhood, Joan Knox referred to Kris, the youngest of two brothers and a sister, as “her joy” and his mother as a “sweetheart.”

“I called her my one and only daughter because I only have the one child (a son who’s Kris’ father). She was a great single mom, raised those children by herself,” Joan Knox stated.

According to Knox, Kris had a tumor behind his eye.

According to the Knox, “When he got sick about five years ago, he’d been suffering with bad headaches and doctors had been … giving him a prescription and sending him home.”

Later on, she said, a grapefruit-sized tumor was found behind his eye. She reported the tumor was reduced to the size of a chicken nugget after two procedures.
