West Miami-Dade Man Accused of Beating Mother and Stealing Her Car

A 45-year-old man was taken into custody on Sunday for assaulting his elderly mother in public and then driving away with her car, as reported by the Miami-Dade police.

According to the suspect’s arrest record, Miami-Dade police were called to the parking lot of La Colonia Medical Center at 8746 SW 24th St. around 2 p.m. on Friday regarding a forceful carjacking.

The victim informed officers that she had picked up her son in the vicinity of Southwest 97th Avenue and 24th Street. She stated that they had a disagreement while she was driving, prompting her to pull over into the medical center’s parking lot and put the car in park.

According to the report, the victim’s son, Enrique Rodriguez, 45, exited the vehicle, walked over to the driver’s side, and forcibly removed his mother from the car by her arm. He then threw her to the ground and began physically assaulting her, according to the police.

Rodriguez then demanded his mother’s car keys, which she handed over. He proceeded to take the driver’s seat and drove away, as stated in the report.

The victim was able to identify her son to the police from a photograph. Authorities located Rodriguez on Sunday in response to an incident at a Pet Supermarket on Southwest 40th Street.

Rodriguez was apprehended on charges of robbery/carjacking and battery on a person aged 65 or older. He chose not to communicate with detectives without the presence of an attorney, according to the police.

As of Monday afternoon, he remained detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $13,000 bond.
