Authorities in Wisconsin reported on Friday that human remains belonging to a 3-year-old boy who vanished in February had been discovered on private land.
The bones, which were identified as belonging to Elijah Vue through forensic testing, were discovered around three miles northwest of the child’s reported missing location, according to Benjamin Meinnert, the chief of police for Two Rivers.
“This is not the outcome that we hoped for. The family’s devastated. We’re devastated. Our community is devastated,” he stated. “I never met Elijah, but I watched that 3-year-old boy bring out the best in this community.”
After months of aerial and ground searches, a deer hunter discovered the skeleton remains on Saturday in a heavily forested area with dense undergrowth, according to Meinnert.
“What started out as a search for a missing boy is now a death investigation,” he stated.
Following Meinnert’s succinct remarks at a press conference on Friday, the department said it will promptly offer updates while the inquiry is ongoing but declined to address specific queries.
About ninety miles north of Milwaukee, near Two Rivers, Elijah vanished from an apartment.
Earlier this year, Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre stated that the youngster vanished after being sent to live with a guy for “disciplinary reasons.”

Charges of child neglect were brought against Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur, and the man her son was reportedly given to live with, Jesse Vang. Baur was accused with two charges of hindering an officer and of participating in the crime of child maltreatment.
According to a criminal complaint, Baur informed police that she left her son with Vang on February 12 in order to train him “to be a man” and that she intended to pick him up on February 23.
The red and white plaid blanket that Elijah was rumored to have with him when he vanished was discovered in a rural region between Manitowoc and Two Rivers in March, according to Meinnert’s Facebook post. This was around 3.7 miles from the last known location of Elijah.
