21-Year-Old Faces Vehicular Homicide Charges After Fatal Bike Crash!

A guy is facing multiple charges after he hit and killed a bicyclist in North Lauderdale in December while going over 90 miles per hour.

Broward County jail records show that Katari Allwood, who is 21 years old, was caught on Tuesday and charged with one count of vehicular homicide and six counts of reckless driving.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. on December 30 in North Lauderdale at the corner of Southwest 81st Avenue and Southwest 11th Street.

A police report says that Allwood was driving a BMW 840i sedan at “an excessive rate of speed” when he hit the cyclist at the crossing.

The report said that Allwood tried to stop and turned to the right, but the car went off the road and into the grass swale before it hit two big utility boxes.

The car then flipped over, went across the crossing, and stopped about 386 feet away from where the first crash happened, according to the report.

The biker, whose name hasn’t been made public, was found dead about 324 feet from where the crash happened.

Authorities say that two of the BMW’s passengers were hurt and taken to the hospital.

The report said that surveillance video from a nearby gas station was looked at and it was found that the BMW was going faster than 90 mph before the crash. Where the accident happened, the sign says that you can only go 40 mph.

Prosecutors told the court on Wednesday that Allwood, who lives in Tamarac, has been pulled over for speeding several times in the past few years, including once in 2021 when he was going 116 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Allwood’s lawyer asked for a low bond because Allwood turned himself in willingly, gave up his passport, and has strong ties to the community.

Allwood’s bond was set at $150,000 with a GPS monitor, and he was told he couldn’t drive if he made bail.
