On Sunday morning, as police officers patrolled and helped people in their neighborhoods, more than 300 people put on their shoes to show their support.
At the seventh annual Run with the Cops in West Palm Beach, it was a beautiful day.
There was a 5K, a 1K, and a “Kids Dash” at the event at the Meyer Amphitheater. The event got started with words from Mayor Keith James.
For the officers on site, this means going beyond the badge and building trust and relationships with the neighborhood.
“It’s very exciting,” said Heath Luttier, who is in charge of organizing the race. “I’m sure a lot of people have been to races, but it’s just a great atmosphere. The amphitheater is especially exciting.”
She said that the goal is to “bridge the gap” between the community and the police, even though the police have hard jobs.
The money raised goes to help train future police officers who want to keep you safe. It also helps the West Palm Beach Police Foundation do their job in the community.
Last year, the money helped pay for their Shop with a Cop event. More than $50,000 was made so that 350 families could go Christmas shopping together.
