Authorities in Missouri said that a 9-month-old baby is in critical condition after the mother’s boyfriend claimed to have given the child a “bear hug.”
Waylon woke up to a healthy baby on September 14. But a day later, he was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
“He is not able to speak. So we will speak for him,” Jaden Branham, the cousin of Waylon, said. According to investigators, Waylon’s mother put him in a baby jumper before using the restroom, as KY3 reported.
Waylon started to cry and throw up at that point.
Then, according to deputies, Jordan Boggess, 28, picked up the boy and threw him into the air, missing the infant on the second attempt. The 28-year-old allegedly told detectives that after that, he gave the infant a bear hug until the child stopped wailing.
“As a mom, if my child is throwing up, I’m not going to pick him up and toss him up in the air thinking that’s going to help out in any scenario,” Branham stated.
Boggess claimed to the authorities that he dropped the infant because his hands were “sweaty.” Nonetheless, medical professionals informed investigators that the 9-month-old has “abusive head trauma.”

“They said baby Waylon will not be the same baby. If he makes it, he’ll be wheelchair-bound. He will not be able to talk. He will not be able to feed himself,” infant’s grandmother, Christa Newman stated.
The grandfather of the child also expressed his heartbreak.
The mother’s boyfriend, Jordan Boggess, is charged by investigators with child abuse. After his arrest, he is being kept without access to bail.
