The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a homicide on the 7800 block of Rideout Road in Tampa, where one person has been reported dead.

At 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, a shooting took place in front of the Get-N-Go, according to investigators.

Upon the deputies’ arrival, three individuals were found with apparent gunshot wounds. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue paramedics pronounced one man dead at the scene, while two others were transported to TGH and are currently undergoing surgery.

Shortly after, an individual approached a deputy, claiming involvement in the shooting. Detectives are presently interviewing this person of interest.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are actively working on reconstructing the scene and conducting interviews.

“This violent scene unfolded within feet of an elementary and middle school,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This disregard for human safety, especially our children, is infuriating. Our detectives and deputies will get to the bottom of this crime.”

Dowdell Middle School and Claire Mel Elementary were placed on lockdown. However, it’s important to note that this incident is unrelated to the school or any students. The matter is currently under active investigation.
