Two individuals lost their lives in a head-on collision between a car and a truck on Tuesday, according to the Virginia State Police. The incident occurred around 4:16 p.m. on November 21, 2023, at 16239 Lankford Highway, north of Annis Lane in Nelsonia.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Augusto Santos Aguilar, 69, from Tampa, Florida, was driving a 2021 Mazda sedan northbound on Route 13.
He crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2021 Freightliner box truck, as reported by the police.
Aguilar was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His daughter, Allyssa Marie Aguilar, 17, also from Tampa, was in the rear seat and tragically died upon impact, according to police.
Maria Jennifer Aguilar, Aguilar’s wife and front seat passenger, was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner, Ervin Jose Mizriky, from Henrico, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.
As of now, no charges have been filed, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing, as stated by the police.
