Police say that a neighbor who is suspected of killing a girl and her father turned himself into deputies on Thursday.
Police in North Carolina say that the killing happened Tuesday south of the city lines of Gastonia. Robert Louis Singletary, who is 24 years old, is accused of shooting Kinsley White, 6, and sending her father, William James White, to the hospital in serious condition. He is also said to have shot Kinsley’s mother, Ashley Hildebrand, in the leg. Police say that he shot at a fourth person, Derrick Kenneth Prather, but missed.
This led to a search for the person who did this. Gaston police say that Singletary turned himself into officers in Hillsborough County, Florida, on Thursday. Online records show that he is being held without release at the Falkenburg Road Jail, and a runaway hearing is set for this Thursday.
WSOC, an ABC station, says that a group of young children was playing basketball when the ball rolled into Singletary’s yard on Tuesday. People around him said he was new to the area and often got mad at the kids who lived there.
This time, an angry Singletary is said to have shot at a neighbor, then turned around and went back. William White may have tried to protect the kids by getting the kids to shoot at him. Singletary is said to have shot him in the back and hurt Kinsley as well.
Hilderbrand told WSOC, “He looked at my husband and my daughter and told them, ‘I’m going to kill you,'”
“We don’t even know the man,” said Kinsley.
The child said that what happened shocked him or her.
“Why did you shoot my daddy and me?” she told WSOC in the interview. “Why did you shoot a kid’s dad?”
In North Carolina, Singletary is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attack with a dangerous weapon with the intent to kill and cause serious harm, and one count of having a gun as a convicted criminal.
Singletary was charged in December for hitting his lover, who was 21 at the time, in the back of the head with a small hatchet.
The young woman said she felt dizzy and lost, and she could feel heavy blood from the back of her head.
WSCO said that cops told them that Singletary wouldn’t let the woman leave the apartment where he reportedly beat her until she cleaned up all of the proof of the attack. She then went to the hospital by herself and called the police. Singletary was charged with assaulting someone to hurt them badly, kidnapping, and making threats.
