TAMPA, Fla. – Ashley Alexander has relocated to Seffner, where she has moved into a brand-new apartment that is far larger than the one she occupied in Temple Terrace back when Nilexia was still alive.
“I was hearing her voice in the other apartment,” she stated. “I was hearing her voice in both apartments.” “I could be walking around in the store and hear somebody that sounds like her, and then I’d go look for her despite the fact that I already knew she wasn’t here.”
A year has passed since Nilexia was last seen getting into a car at 3 a.m. on May 6 in East Tampa. However, the teen’s ashes are still kept in an urn that is kept in a display case in the living room.
According to the authorities, Ronny Walker was the one who drove her to the abandoned property off Florabraska Avenue and shot her there. He is being accused of murder worthy of the death penalty.
The fact that the young adult was riding in a car at three in the morning with a middle-aged man is still something of a puzzle. Nilexia, according to the police, has a history of often fleeing her house.
Ashley said that she had the impression that everything was still quite new. “I still have a memory of going out to the morgue and seeing it on the news,” she said. “It was a terrible accident.” I am still experiencing that eerie cold. It was a terrible chill. Hearing the click of the doors. I am able to hear it even now.
Walker was once convicted of a separate crime and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for it. However, that conviction was reversed, and he was able to walk out of jail after just serving five years thanks to a plea agreement.
This incident took place in 2003. Walker came into the house, demanded money from Elaine Caldwell’s lover, and then killed Elaine in front of Veronica Denson and her grandmother, Elaine Caldwell.
Veronica Denson was home at the time with her grandmother. The boyfriend informed the police about Walker, stating that he had heard rumors that Walker was the perpetrator of the crime.
It required two separate juries to reach the verdict that he was guilty of homicide as well as armed robbery. He was sentenced to life in prison, but his legal team was successful in their appeal by arguing that the judge improperly relied on hearsay evidence.
Robert Creed, a second suspect detained in connection with the investigation, is said to have been a passenger in the vehicle when it was stopped early that morning. An accusation of accessory after the fact has been brought against him.
It’s been a whole year since the horrific shooting, and there’s still no date scheduled for the trial.
Ashley said, “I know I probably will never get the answers,” and she was right. “But what I really want to hear is, ‘How the two of you got together? When you pulled the trigger on that gun that night, what were you thinking? Did she say? What was it she did?’ She was a child in my eyes, regardless of what she said or did. It didn’t matter.
On Saturday, she is going to host a balloon launch at Ballast Point Park, which is one of Nilexia’s most beloved locations.
Her next responsibility as a mother is to remain present during the entire proceeding.
“I will make it a point to be there,” she stated. “I am going to make it my business to be there.” “I wish to ensure that justice is done. I have a burning need to look this man in the eye. I would like it if he could see my face.
I want him to feel the rage and the pain that he inflicted on me, my family, and others. I would like for him to see me.”
On May 15, Robert Creed is scheduled to appear in court. The prosecution has already announced that they want to pursue the death sentence in this case.
On June 8th, Ronny Walker is scheduled to appear in court.
In January, Nilexia would have turned 15 years old.
