On Monday, agents with the FBI carried out a search warrant at the Seminole Heights home of Lynn Hurtak, who is a member of the Tampa City Council. During the search, they seized laptops, a phone, and other devices that belonged to Lynn’s husband.
As of three in the afternoon on Monday, there were seven real estate agents moving in and out of the property. They came at six in the morning.
The agents would not reveal the reason for their presence or the law enforcement organization that they worked for when questioned by the Tampa Bay Times. On the other hand, a representative for the FBI has verified that the agency carried out a search that was allowed at Hurtak’s residence on Monday.
Hurtak is married to Tim Burke, a well-known former journalist who currently manages a media company. She did not answer any of the questions posed to her.
During the course of a phone call, Burke explained to the agents why they had come to the location: they had a search warrant bearing his name. According to him, they spent the entire day stealing his personal gadgets in addition to the ones that he uses for his business.
He stated that they wouldn’t talk to him, and he declined to provide the Times with a copy of the search warrant. The FBI stated that it was unable to provide any further details or information.
Burke stated that he was unsure as to why the agents went to the couple’s residence and that it was a “terrible feeling” to wake up to many of them with their flashlights out and their pistols drawn. He added that he did not know why the agents went to the couple’s residence. He further claimed that the agents had destroyed some of their stuff and left their homes in a disorganized state.
On Monday, at around 3:44 p.m., the agents vacated the premises.
Burke is the proprietor of Burke Communications, a media firm that caters to the needs of a variety of customers and generates a wide range of material for the media industry.
As of today, the website for his company was not functioning properly. In addition to that, he has previous experience working for the internet news publications Gawker and Deadspin.
He did not wish to elaborate further until he had spoken with his legal counsel.
