WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A report from Internal Affairs shows that West Palm Beach Police Officer Kevin Harrell was fired because he lied to them.
According to the report from Internal Affairs, Harrell gave a friend the home address of a West Palm Beach Police sergeant. Harrell was also friends with a convicted criminal and a known drug trafficker.
Internal Affairs also found that Harrell gave information about police officers he had problems with to a woman who put videos on YouTube that were meant to hurt trust in how the police department worked. This hurt the morale and efficiency of the police department.
“It’s very sad for our service. West Palm Beach Police Chief Frank Adderley said, “I think it caused a lot of trouble.”
Harrell also told people outside of the police department things that usually were only known to people in the police department.
Chief Adderley said, “I think his actions caused trouble in our agency and made a lot of people in our department who worked with him every day feel uncomfortable because of some of the things he did.”
The Police Chief said that during a disciplinary hearing, Harrell said he didn’t do any of the things that the IA probe found he did.
Chief Adderley said he didn’t expect Harrell to do what he did. “Thank God this is not the norm,” said Adderley.
Harrell was let go of on March 29.
The IA report says that Harrell broke a number of department rules, such as the standard of conduct, the security of department work, and telling the truth.
