Florida Man Claims $1 Million Prize from Publix Scratch-Off Ticket

TAMPA, Fla. — A resident of Naples, Florida, won a prize of $1 million after purchasing a winning scratch-off ticket at Publix.

The Florida Lottery recently declared that John Downey, a 63-year-old individual, claimed the top prize from the Gold Rush Limited scratch-off game at the Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.

Downey opted to receive his winnings as a single, lump-sum payment amounting to $795,000. Officials from the lottery confirmed that Downey bought the winning ticket at the Publix store situated at 8833 Tamiami Trail North in Naples.

As a result, the Publix store will be awarded a bonus commission of $2,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The scratch-off game, priced at $20 per ticket, offers 32 grand prizes of $5 million each, along with 100 prizes of $1 million.

As stated on the Florida Lottery’s website, there are currently nine remaining scratch-off tickets worth $5 million and 36 remaining scratch-offs worth $1 million.

The overall odds of winning in this game are 1-in-2.65.
