TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa police have announced the arrest of three armed teenagers and the confiscation of 10 firearms on Monday night.
The police department reported that two of the arrests were of teenagers involved in the shooting incident that took place on June 14 in the game room of the West River Boulevard apartments.
Following leads related to that case, the TPD became aware of armed juveniles gathering in the vicinity of 2004 North Howard Avenue. Subsequently, an investigation and surveillance operation was initiated.
Law enforcement officers located and apprehended two individuals, one of whom was in possession of a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, while the other carried a Beretta .22 caliber handgun with the serial number intentionally removed.
During continued surveillance subsequent to the initial arrests, the third suspect, armed with a Taurus .40 caliber handgun, was apprehended. Three other individuals were observed but were subsequently released.
Additionally, the police obtained a search warrant for Apartment 208 at the aforementioned location. Inside the apartment, several firearms were discovered in plain sight, resulting in the seizure of seven guns, two of which were reported stolen.
Chief Lee Bercaw expressed deep concern regarding the situation, stating, “It is deeply concerning that these juveniles not only have access to guns, but they have a disregard for the safety of others.”
He also commended the dedication of the detectives and officers involved in making Tampa safer, noting that the removal of ten firearms from the hands of juveniles prevents potential harm to the community.
The arrested teenagers now face multiple charges, including carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm with the serial number removed, and being a minor in possession of a firearm.
The investigation remains ongoing.
