The right to sit down at work has been granted by an ordinance enacted by the Ann Arbor City Council. As long as it doesn’t interfere with their work, the regulation mandates that factories, retail establishments, laundromats, motels, restaurants, hair salons, barbers, and skin care specialists allow their employees to sit.
According to MLive.com, the law was unanimously passed by the council on October 7. Regarding infractions, the city’s Human Rights Commission will be in charge.
Similar legislation is in place in several states, such as California, Florida, and Wisconsin. An ordinance in Ann Arbor is the first of its sort in Michigan, according to officials.
During the October 7 council meeting, Jen Eyer, a member of the Ann Arbor City Council, stated that her mother’s nursing career was interrupted due to multiple sclerosis, so she accepted a job in retail.
“I remember thinking how is she going to be able to do this, and I visited her one day in the shop and I noticed that they had a stool for her to sit on,” Eyer stated.

The chair of the Ann Arbor Commission on Disability Issues, Zach Damon, informed the council that businesses will make more money if they are more accessible and accommodating.
