Maryland Governor Wes Moore informed our media partner The Baltimore Banner that light rail trains, not rapid buses, will be used on Baltimore’s Red Line in the future.

Following outreach events involving thousands of individuals in the Baltimore region, Moore told the Baltimore Banner that the rail line was the best option.

On Friday, he is anticipated to make the formal announcement. “This is a huge step forward and a continued commitment to the people of the state,” Moore stated to Banner.

Rail was preferred by locals, companies, and commuters over quick buses.

“It just became very clear that this is the mode of transportation that we were going to select,” Moore stated to Banner.

The project aims to close a large gap in east-west transit service across downtown Baltimore, from Bayview to Woodlawn.

With this initiative, the Maryland Transit Administration intends to close a gap and give locals convenient access to jobs, educational opportunities, and other resources.

“This important contract’s approval is a significant step forward in our efforts to construct the Baltimore Red Line,” Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold stated. “This is a much-needed project for our region and our team is committed to delivering it as quickly as possible.”
