This week in a park, a 7-year-old girl was allegedly slashed in the neck by a Detroit man, who was taken into custody.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Gary Lansky, 73, was charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault in relation to the attack that occurred on Tuesday at Detroit’s Ryan Park.

The little victim was a Yemeni American Muslim girl, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, who was attacked when she was playing at a park close to her house.

According to Detroit police, Lansky approached the child at the park, slashed her throat with a knife, and then left the area. Later on in the day, he was arrested.

Officers discovered the youngster had a cut to her throat when they arrived at the residence at 3:45 p.m. in response to a complaint of a stabbing. The following day, according to the authorities, she was treated at a hospital and released.

To ascertain whether the incident constituted a hate crime, CAIR is urging the prosecutor’s office and the Detroit Police Department to carry out a comprehensive investigation.

The girl, her family, and “all of the other children who were in the park that day” will all be affected by the incident, which was described as “a senseless act of violence.”

According to a Detroit police spokesperson, the agency had already finished its investigation and given it to the prosecutor’s office, which chose the charges.

“At this time, we don’t have any information that supports hate crime charges,” Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Maria Miller stated.

Thursday saw Lansky’s arraignment in 36th District Court. The prosecutor’s office stated that he was freed on a $2 million bond and put under house arrest with a GPS tether.

The prosecutor’s office announced that a probable cause conference is scheduled on Wednesday and a bond redetermination hearing is slated for Monday.

It is unclear if Lanksy has a representative speaking for him.
