TAMPA, Florida — After being involved in a conspiracy to smuggle methamphetamine from Mexico into Tampa Bay, a man from Georgia will be sentenced to serve the next six years and six months of his life in federal prison.
On February 2, 2019, Jose Javier, 55, of Atlanta was sentenced after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with the purpose to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. According to a release issued by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, Javier received his sentence.
According to the officials, Galvan and other people involved in the conspiracy intended to deliver high-purity methamphetamine from Guadalajara, Mexico, to Atlanta and Tampa in the summer of 2021.
According to the United States Department of Justice, Galvan’s role in the scheme was to drive from Atlanta to Tampa in order to organize the distribution of the drugs throughout the Tampa Bay area. He made a promise to sell numerous kilograms of the cocaine for approximately $5,700 each through his courier.
According to the announcement, “a drug courier drove from Atlanta to Plant City and delivered 1.89 kilograms of high-purity methamphetamine imported from Mexico.” The drug courier made the delivery while driving from Atlanta to Plant City. “The methamphetamine was transported by the courier in a bright green laundry detergent box.”

According to the office of the United States Attorney, Galvan, and his courier made a deal the following week to transport further quantities of methamphetamine to Central Florida.
Their scheme was foiled, however, when the courier was stopped in Lowndes County, Georgia, and subsequently searched. There, law enforcement agents discovered “two laundry detergent boxes containing an aggregate amount of approximately 4.9 kilograms of methamphetamine.”
The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Winter Haven Police Department, the Plant City Police Department, and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia worked together on this investigation as one team.
