A lawyer in Florida has asked for an investigation into the recent taking of pictures of a couple’s car on a homeowner’s property in a wealthy area of Fort Lauderdale. When the couple was making a late-night shopping delivery, they accidentally came across some of the homeowner’s things.
No one was hurt. This shooting is the latest in a series of similar ones that have happened around the United States. In each case, people have mistakenly gotten on the wrong property or into the wrong car, causing one person to die and others to be seriously hurt.
The person who shot said that the car was being driven erratically and hit him in the leg. He told police that he feared for his safety and his son’s. But the cops ended the case without talking to the state attorney’s office. This led Broward County State Attorney Harold Pryor to say that a full review is needed.
The police report says that Waldes Thomas Jr. and his female friend Diamond Darville got lost while delivering groceries for Instacart a little before 10 PM.
They were talking to their customer on the phone when Thomas drove their 2014 Honda Civic into a place where the shooter kept tools for his big business. The address they were looking for was just around the corner.
Investigators got different stories from the homeowner and the couple about what happened. The father said that he told his 12-year-old son to tell the driver to leave, but the boy was soon heard yelling for help.
The father said he saw that the car was driving unevenly and hitting trees and rocks, so he told his son to run. He said that the car then drove toward him and ran over his foot. This made him pull out his handgun and shoot at the tires, but the car took off, so he called the police.
Darville said she saw the shooter take out his gun and fire. The couple thought they were in the right place and tried to leave when the boy told them they weren’t.
Southwest Ranches has a contract with the Davie Police Department to provide services. The Davie Police Department did not say anything about the case but released the lead detective’s report.
The report concluded that each side seemed right in what they did base on what they thought was going on, and without video evidence, it was impossible to say if any crimes had been committed.
The AP doesn’t know who shot the man because he hasn’t been charged with a crime yet, and the cops gave him back his gun after the case was over.
