OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. —The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office says that three men are charged with putting liquid fire on a cat.
Investigators said that the three men made an eight-minute video of themselves putting sulfuric acid, which is used to unclog drains, on a caged cat.
The event happened on Valentine’s Day, February 14, near Northeast 17th Ave in Okeechobee County, according to deputies.
Jaymarion Lawton, 19, Andrew Jackson, 21, and Wanya Sands, 22, are the people who might have done it.
Detectives from Okeechobee County served Lawton with a search warrant for his phone on April 5, officers say.The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office said that Sands was the one who poured the liquid fire over the cat’s body and head many times over the course of the eight-minute video.
The sheriff’s office said that Jackson was found to be the one who took the video.
On April 11, police found Sands and talked with him. Sands ran away from officers while being questioned. Sands was brought to the ground by deputies, and he was taken into arrest soon after.
Wanya was taken into custody and charged with causing serious harm to an animal and fighting arrest without violence.
Jackson went to the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office on his own and was charged with being an accomplice after the fact to a level five third-degree felony and aggravated animal abuse.
Lawton was caught and charged with being a party to a level 5 third-degree felony after the fact and with causing serious harm to an animal.
Deputies say that they don’t know where the cat is. The cat was said to have been let out of its box and run away.
Animal Control says that from February until now, there have been no reports of cats with chemical burns.
