WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Gas stations across South Florida are still feeling the effects of severe storms and flooding that hit Broward County last week. The floods disrupted fuel distribution throughout the region, causing thousands of gas trucks to be unable to make deliveries.
This has led to confusion and even panic for drivers, with some gas pumps being closed and other stations experiencing shortages. In southeast Florida, gas comes from Port Everglades, which was affected by the flooding, causing only half of its fuel terminals to be operational.
The delays are leaving some gas stations without fuel, and others receiving deliveries. Despite the complications, officials assure that it’s not a supply problem, but a distribution and supply chain issue.
Gas station owners are relying on their relationships with the port and transporters to ensure they get fuel, and some have even reported that being independent has helped their situation.
While the flooding caused damage to some terminals, it’s expected that more trucks will soon fill up and deliver gas, allowing the situation to return to normal in the coming days.
