After record flooding in the city of Port Everglades on Wednesday, some gas shops in South Florida are out of gas because they can’t get more from the port.
On Saturday, a WPTV crew went around West Palm Beach and found gas shops with gas. After that, stations west of Delray Beach and Lake Worth Beach called the office to say they were out of gas.
One caller said that there was a line of cars waiting to fill up at the Wawa in Palm Springs.
After 25 inches of rain fell in the city, a worker at a Shell station at Forest Hill Boulevard and Military said that most Shell stations were having trouble getting supplies on Friday night.
Port Everglades officials told WTVJ that the roads to and from the fuel farms were flooded, so their trucks couldn’t get to gas stores.
Officials said that there was enough fuel in storage and that there were several tanker ships in port and out at sea ready to unload more fuel.
On Friday, the head of Sunshine Gasoline Distributors, Maximo Alvarez, said that things should be back to normal by Saturday.
Broward County Mayor Lamar Fisher said in a news release, “Recovery efforts for the fuel companies at Port Everglades are going on.” This is because of the unusual storm on Wednesday. “Diesel and gasoline-carrying oil trucks are waiting at the port to be filled up and sent to gas stations in the area.
But people may have trouble getting their packages on time, which is common after natural disasters. Some businesses are still getting back on their feet after the storm because of the heavy rain and water, but others are up and running. Over the next few days, more fuel is expected to be delivered.”
