Those who live in Missouri and have kept their previous year’s gas tax receipts are qualified to apply for the reimbursement.

The application deadline for this rebate is September 30, and it gives drivers the opportunity to receive a return on the higher motor fuel tax.

Senate Bill 262, which allowed drivers to seek a rebate on the gas tax, was passed in Missouri in 2021. Since then, in order to pay for the upkeep of roads and bridges, the state has been increasing the gas tax yearly.

Since SB262 became a law in July 2021, the tax has climbed by 2.5 cents per gallon annually. It will rise further until it hits 29.5 cents per gallon in 2025.

As of right now, the tax is 27 cents per gallon. Missouri’s revenue per mile is still quite low despite these increases.

Drivers who have kept their gas tax revenues between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, must fill out form 4923-H online in order to be eligible for the rebate.

The Vehicle Identification Number and the total number of gallons of gasoline and/or diesel purchased must be entered into the form.

Drivers may email the state or call 573-751-7671 or 800-735-2966 with questions or concerns regarding the rebate. According to data from the Missouri Department of Revenue, the average gas tax refund in 2022 was $27.86.
