FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The heartbroken mother-in-law of a woman who was killed said she wants justice in Broward County.
Arma Gilead said that one of the two people killed in a drive-by shooting at a grocery store in Pompano Beach earlier this year was her beloved 31-year-old daughter-in-law.
“It came as a surprise to me. Gilead said of her response to the tragedy, “I just cried because it was so crazy.”
Gilead said that Delana James Miller was at the wrong time and place. At about 9 p.m. on February 26 at the Community Food Store at 401 NW 27 Ave., she pulled into the parking lot but couldn’t get out of her car.
Gilead said, “Her grandmother likes the food they make there, so she was picking up lunch for her.”
Sheriff Gregory Tony said on Tuesday that Broward Sheriff’s Office officers had found and re-arrested one murder suspect. He said that the shooters used assault rifles and handguns to fire 60 rounds.
Tony said that detectives were still looking for the other people who were guilty for the shootout that killed a father, Dayvon Johnson, and hurt two men and a child.
“The most important thing is to find out who killed us,” Gilead said. “From what I’ve heard so far, they’ve caught one of them, and maybe more. That would give us peace of mind.”
Damian Wastene Charmant, who is 18 years old, went in front of Broward County Circuit Judge Chris Brown on Wednesday morning. Brown found probable cause for two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree attempted murder with a gun. Charmant was being held by deputies without a bond.
Detectives asked anyone with information about the case to call Detective Gino Parram at 954-321-4211 or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to stay anonymous and be qualified for a reward of up to $10,500.
