JSO Investigates Domestic Shooting Incident in West Jacksonville

Around 11:15 on Wednesday morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office received a call from a neighbor who reported hearing gunshots in a residential neighborhood in West Jacksonville.

Upon arriving at 3400 Lowel Ave., the police discovered a woman in her early 20s with a single gunshot wound to her stomach.

During a subsequent press conference held by the JSO, it was revealed that the victim had been rushed to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition.

A man in his 30s was spotted fleeing the scene, but patrol officers managed to track him down to the corner of Commonwealth Avenue.

As the suspect refused to comply with commands to surrender, a K9 unit was called in to assist. Eventually, the man was apprehended by the K9 unit and then transported to a local hospital for treatment of K9 bites on his wrist.

Violent crime detectives were in the process of obtaining a search warrant to gather and process evidence. Interestingly, the home where the shooting occurred was believed to be unoccupied according to the JSO.

The authorities, based on their investigations, believe that this incident is an isolated and contained domestic situation involving a man and a woman.

In an effort to gather more information, the police are urging residents in the area to come forward if they have any security footage or any other relevant details. They can contact the JSO at 904-630-0500.
