TAMPA, Fla. — According to the documents filed by the court, a guy who is now 37 years old was given a sentence of life in prison on Friday for impersonating a police officer and raping a lady in the city of Tampa in the year 2021.
Back on December 8th, Justin Evans was found guilty of all four of the crimes for which he was being prosecuted; they included violence, impersonating a public officer, and two acts of false detention. It was now common knowledge that he was a sexual offender.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office stated at the time that the crime took place just before midnight on August 9, 2021, and that Evans began his pursuit of the suspect vehicle after it left the Bull Market in Tampa. Inside the vehicle were three ladies.
According to the sheriff’s office, the individual’s vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, was fitted with LED lights that were installed on the driver’s side dashboard.
He then approached the women in their car while dressed in dark clothing after using those lights to force the women to pull over inside an apartment complex.
According to the reports, Evans told the women that he was conducting a narcotics investigation and asked them to get out of the car and lay their hands on the hood while he searched him. He also reportedly told them that he was going to search him.
According to the allegation from the sheriff’s office, Evans told one of the ladies that she was being arrested and then used a zip tie to bind her hands behind her back. According to the deputies, he then raped her at another apartment complex after taking her there.
After that, Evans allegedly brought the woman back to the vicinity of the place where he had initially detained her.
According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found Evans and his vehicle the following day near Wesley Chapel in the county of Pasco. Evans got out of his car and rushed into a wooded area when he discovered that law enforcement was following him. There, he was caught and taken into custody.
During the course of the trial, Evans provided the court with the following justification for first following the women:
“When I saw the women pull up and get out of the car — I didn’t know their names or anything… I was meant to eat some tacos and head home, but when I saw the women pull up and get out of the car…I made the decision to stop the car and start a dialogue…I asked [one of the ladies] for her number, but she did not give it to me. However, she did tell me that I might have you follow her.
