WELLINGTON, Fla. — On Monday, what is thought to have been a lightning strike left Wellington Community High School without power. On Tuesday, all of the power was back on at the school.
The school’s front office told WPTV reporter Victor Jorges on Tuesday morning that the campus is back up and running and that everything is back to normal.
Principal Cara Hayden told parents and guardians on Monday that the school at 2101 Greenview Shores Boulevard may have lost power because of a lightning hit. This meant that the school had to run on generator power.
The restaurant only served bagged lunches and didn’t have air conditioning, phones, or the internet.
Hayden’s callout said that there were only 75 people on campus on Monday afternoon.
Hayden also said that students who miss school on Monday will be excused because of the unexpected power outage. They will be marked “S” for a school-related absence.
“This school-related absence will not be counted toward determining if a student needs to pass the semester exam to get credit for the course,” Hayden said.
