A dump truck collision early Wednesday morning caused one man to lose his life and left others injured.
According to Tampa police, the tragic accident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of I-4 West and East Columbus Drive under the overpass.
The vehicles involved were a 2006 Scion TC and a 2020 Peterbilt dump truck.
According to reports, the incident between the dump truck and the Scion was caused by the Scion’s failure to stop at a red light at the intersection of the off-ramp.
The victim, a 25-year-old female, was located by the responding officers in the front passenger seat of the Scion when they arrived.
The victim passed away from his wounds shortly after being transferred to the hospital, despite everyone’s best efforts to rescue him.
The driver as well as the passengers in the back seat all experienced injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
The dump truck driver emerged unscathed from the incident. The Scion driver now faces charges of DUI manslaughter.
