POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A collision that occurred on State Route 60 near Mulberry resulted in the deaths of two people, as Polk County Sheriff Judd explained to the media.
The sheriff’s office reports that the collision occurred at around 5:41 in the morning and that it involved two automobiles.
“We had a senior at Bartow High School who was driving eastbound toward Bartow High School in her red pickup truck,” said Judd. “We were able to stop her before she reached the school.” It appears, based on all of the evidence gathered thus far in this stage of the inquiry, that she was acting in compliance with the law.
According to Judd, a silver Expedition that was traveling in the direction of the west turned around and began traveling in the direction of the south, and a teenager from Bartow collided with the expedition.
There were seven people participating in the adventure. They had to throw out four of them. It was clear that they were not fastening their seat belts. They both fell to the ground on the road. Two of them made it to the edge of the forest. According to Judd, they sustained major wounds.
According to Judd, the senior at Bartow High School, who is 18 years old, had serious injuries and was transported to Tampa General Hospital.
According to Judd, six individuals were taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital by ground ambulance, where they are now receiving treatment; however, one of the victims passed away on the spot.
The number of fatalities that have occurred in Lakeland Regional has now reached two. So far, we have two people who have passed away, and the remaining individuals are in states ranging from stable to critical.
There is a chance that one-third of those injured may pass away as a direct result of their injuries. This one is being done as an emergency operation right now. According to Judd, “So this has been a terrible day.”
