A guy has been detained by California police in relation to a couple that vanished from their San Bernardino County, California, house at a nudist resort late last week.

Authorities verified that they had taken into custody Stephanie Menard,73, and Daniel Menard,79,’s neighbor late on Thursday night.

Police have not stated if they have found the couple’s bodies, but they are currently assuming that they are dead.

Living inside the resort in Redlands, California, Michael Sparks is close to the couple. Police said they received a tip, leading to Sparks’ arrest. Together with a SWAT unit, police surrounded the 62-year-old’s house on Thursday night.

After officers found Sparks beneath the house’s floor, he was eventually taken into custody without any problems. Police used an armored tactical vehicle to breach the walls of the one-story building in an attempt to find Sparks, causing significant damage.

Carl Baker, a spokesperson for the Redlands Police Department, told reporters Thursday night at a media availability session, “Let me say he surrendered voluntarily. I won’t say he’s been cooperative, but he did surrender voluntarily last night after lengthy negotiations.”

Sparks is in detention right now. On Friday, cadaver dogs were seen by police scouring the area.

“RPD is currently on scene at the suspect’s house preparing to search for the bodies of the couple. Due to extensive damage, the structure will need to be made safe before searchers can enter,” police stated on Facebook.

Following the elderly couple’s disappearance from their residence at the nudist resort on Saturday, a massive search for them was launched in the Inland Empire region, which is close to Southern California’s coast and includes the cities of San Bernardino and Riverside.

At the time, the couple’s Shih Tzu was also reported missing, and it is still unclear where the dog is now.
