After cutting an officer at the AMC Regency 24 on Friday night, a man is being charged with aggravated attack.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office online Inmate Information Search, Harun Juma, who is 20, was still in the Duval County Jail on Tuesday afternoon. His bond was set at $150,003.
The victim, whose name was taken out of the report because of Marsy’s Law, told police that he saw the suspect hanging out in the hallways while he was “on routine patrol making his rounds.”
The person who was hurt said that Juma “came up to him and called him by a name he didn’t know at all.” The story doesn’t say much about the attack, which happened near Auditorium 7.
An AMC worker told cops that he ran over after hearing the victim call for help. Another witness told the police that by the time he got there, “the victim was getting control of the suspect physically, but still needed help.”
The witness told the police, “He tried to take control of the suspect’s hands,” but the report doesn’t say anything else.
The report says that when cops arrived at 9:40 p.m., the victim was “sitting slouched against the wall of Auditorium 7 in the hallway.” He had a deep cut between his eyes on his forehead, and blood was running down his face. He had a few small cuts on his left arm, and he said he also had a few small cuts on his chest and back.
The report said that Juma “was lying next to him on his stomach” with his hands in handcuffs behind his back. Officers could see that Juma’s face was covered in blood, but they did not see any cuts on him. As proof, the police took a silver knife that had blood on it and said that Juma was the owner of the knife.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department came and helped both the person who was hurt and Juma.
The general manager of AMC Regency went to the theater and talked with the cops. The next part of the report is blacked out, but it seems to be a study of security video because it talks about “the suspect in the hallway outside of Auditorium 7 walking in and out of several theaters and hanging out in the hallway.” He walked up to the victim and seemed to talk to him for a short time.”
Action News Jax found a post on Nextdoor about the situation, which said that workers and cops were running all over the building. The post said that workers ran into all the rooms and told everyone to leave the theater.
We’ve asked AMC Regency for more information about what happened, but we haven’t heard back yet.
The next time Juma will go to court is on Monday, May 15 at 9 a.m.
