One Dead, One Injured in Tragic South Bay Collision

About 5 miles south of South Bay on Wednesday afternoon, a tractor-trailer jackknifed and smashed into a dump truck, killing one and injuring another, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

PBCFR units were dispatched to a collision on southbound US-27 near Mile Marker 62 at around 1:20 p.m. WPTV called PBFR and asked if they could utilize their heavy-duty rotator wrecker to help clear the scene.

Someone at the scene proclaimed the victim dead, and they were transferred to the hospital.

PBFR units had left the scene by 2:45 p.m., but sugar workers were still unable to pass through the region for several more hours. The route was still closed around 10:00 p.m.

Another roadway fatality occurred on Tuesday, just 6.5 miles distant, at mile marker 68.5. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, authorities are still looking for the person responsible for a tragic hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian.
