On Saturday, a fundraiser named “Wear Orange to end Gun Violence” took held in Riviera Beach in order to collect donations for a victim of a shooting that took place on March 11.
Lauren St. Fort, age 27, was with friends when she was approached by an assailant and shot numerous times. She is now being kept alive by a ventilator at St. Mary’s Medical Center and is paralyzed from the neck down. The perpetrator of the shooting has not been identified, and the Riviera Beach police department has not released any details about the incident.
West Palm Beach was the location of the fundraising event, which took place at 2145 S. Military Trail.
The event included a free vehicle wash, free haircuts, free face painting, free games, and free food and baked goods. Donations were accepted.
Her sisters have said that she is putting up a battle for her life, and for as long as she does so, they will do the same for her.
The funds that have been donated will go toward paying for her long-term care and her medical expenditures.
According to Marie St. Fort, her sister has minimal insurance, but her medical demands are quite high, and the family does not have the resources to pay the kind of care that her sister requires.
There is now a GoFundMe website dedicated to assisting her with her financial obligations.
On the 1400 block of West 36th Street is where the shooting was said to have occurred around 1:17 p.m.
According to the Riviera Beach police department, the incident is still being investigated.
