Riviera Beach's New Chief of Police Vows to Take on Gun Violence Head-On.

The new Riviera Beach police chief is now on the job.

Michael Coleman has been in law enforcement for 25 years and was most recently a captain with the Delray Beach Police Department.

The U.S. Army veteran wants to make Riviera Beach safer by giving officers more training, making police work harder and more intense to get guns off the streets, and lowering what he calls “generational curses” like poverty and the number of people who break the law over and over again.

He also wants to get to know young people better by sending police officers to schools and churches.

Chief Coleman’s annual pay will be $155,000.
