According to Decision Desk HQ, Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) has emerged victorious from a packed GOP primary in the contest for governor of Indiana.
The first-term senator from Indiana, Braun, defeated five other Republican contenders, including former state attorney general Curtis Hill and lieutenant governor Suzanne Crouch of Indiana.
Braun had a sizable lead over the primary field according to a March Emerson College/The Hill survey, but the majority of voters said they were unsure.
Braun is scheduled to face off against Jennifer McCormick, the lone Democratic contender for governor, who is a former state superintendent, in the general election.
As a Republican, she was elected to the state’s top education position, but after her tenure was up, she changed parties.
But in November, the Democratic candidate will probably have a difficult opponent. Since 2011, the Hoosier State has taken pride in its Republican trifecta, which includes GOP control of the state legislature, the state house, and the governor’s palace.
In the autumn, McCormick and Braun will also take against Donald Rainwater, the Libertarian candidate.
With his own Senate seat up for grabs, Braun is quitting the upper chamber to run against Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb (R), whose term is coming to an end.

With Braun’s support and the endorsement of former President Trump, Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) is the sole Republican opponent running for the Senate seat. Additionally, that makes Banks’s House seat open for election this year.
In the meantime, on Tuesday, the presidential candidates Trump and Biden each prevailed in the Indiana primary. In Indiana, Trump defeated Biden by a wide margin in 2020 after winning the state in 2016.
With the exception of supporting former President Obama in the 2008 election, Indiana has voted red in each of the previous 60 presidential elections.
