ORLANDO, Fla. — On Wednesday, a Florida man was arrested in connection with the death of a woman on I-4 in Orlando earlier this year.
A report from NBC station WESH says that police arrested Albert Ayala, 33, for something else. After his girlfriend jumped out of the moving car and onto I-4 on January 26, he was charged of running away from the scene of an accident.
Detectives from the Orlando Police Department said that Teqilla L. Shepherd, who was 39 years old, “spontaneously” jumped out of the car when she got into a fight with Ayala near the Orange Blossom Trail exit. Callers told police that cars were hitting a body in the road, so they went to the area.
Police said that Ayala tried to get off at the OBT but lost control and crashed on the off-ramp. Detectives say that he left the scene of the crime.
On Wednesday, Ayala was said to have stated that on January 26, she picked up Shepard from work and got into a fight with her.
He was taken to the Orange County Jail and charged with leaving the scene of an accident in which someone died, leaving the scene of an accident in which property was damaged, and driving with a license that had been revoked.
