Mia Bailey, 28, made her initial court appearance on Wednesday morning. She is charged with killing her parents in a double homicide that occurred in southern Utah last week.
Eleven felonies are being brought against Bailey, including two counts of aggravated murder, one count of attempted aggravated murder, one case of aggravated burglary, and seven counts of felonious firearm discharge.
Exactly one week after her arrest, on Wednesday, June 26, Bailey made her initial appearance in 5th District Court. She replied that she didn’t have enough money to hire an attorney when the court asked her at the meeting. She listed a car, laptop, computer electronics, jewelry, and fine silverware dishes when asked if she had any assets to sell.
Ryan Stout was chosen by the court to represent her. Bailey was advised by Stout not to discuss the case with anyone or comment on the accusations. He also promised to meet with Bailey in the coming day or two.
According to court records, Bailey expressed no regret after her arrest and was overheard by officers saying, “I would do it again.” I detest them.

Documents state that on June 18, when Washington police rushed to a home on the 1000 block of E. Chinook Dr., they discovered a man and a woman who had been fatally shot.
The next day, police arrested Bailey after an hours-long manhunt for the culprit. She allegedly boasted about hiding in bushes, leaping fences, and sleeping in park restrooms to elude law police.
Bailey’s name and gender were officially altered, and documents indicated that she was in the process of changing from male to female.
She is still being held without bond at the Washington County prison. The date of her subsequent hearing is July 10.
