ST. PETERSBURG, Florida – The call came in at 5:39 in the evening, and officers proceeded to the location at 11901 4th Street North to investigate a report of a person who had been shot there.
The report stated that the victim had been shot at the location. When the police arrived, they found 32-year-old Derrick D. Mims laying face down on the asphalt with apparent injuries to his upper body. Mims was taken into custody without incident.
Mims was sent to a nearby hospital, but it was later established that he had passed away shortly after arriving at the facility. It is unclear why he was taken there.
According to the police, they were able to get in touch with the relative who was thought to be the most immediate relative.
