Deputies said that over the weekend in Hillsborough County, two adolescent males led authorities on a high-speed chase along Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County.
At around 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint that a red SUV that had been reported stolen from Riverview had been seen driving along Interstate 75.
The motorist refused to pull over despite several attempts by the deputies who were attempting to halt the vehicle. The SUV was finally brought to a stop on the Selmon Expressway by a trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol who used a PIT technique.
A child of 15 years old was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a lethal weapon, grand theft motor vehicle, and running to evade at a high speed. Due to the boy’s age, WFLA has chosen not to identify him.
In addition, a boy who was only 14 years old was taken into custody and charged with grand theft auto.
“Unfortunately, there are people in our community who never learned, that if something is not theirs, donāt touch it,ā Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. “Lock your car, no matter how quickly youāre going to be inside your home. This car was left unlocked and running in a driveway, making it easy for these teens to steal.”
